World Book Day Celebrations

A post in our latest news section.

We enjoyed a wonderful World Book Day filled with creativity, excitement, and a real love of reading. The children arrived in some brilliant costumes and took part in paired reading across the school, sharing stories with younger pupils and listening to books read by older classes. Every child also took part in our book swap, heading home with a new story to enjoy alongside their book token.

One of the highlights was our much‑anticipated ‘Wonka’ moment, as we opened the chocolate bars to discover which lucky children had found golden tickets. Prizes included a stationery pack or a very special afternoon tea with Mrs Bridon next week. Thank you to our Friends of St. Godric’s for organising this.

Throughout the day, classes were immersed in English activities linked to our shared Trust curriculum. Organised by colleagues in our Trust, the ‘Between the Pages’ timetable offered a range of online sessions connected to the texts we study, and we were incredibly fortunate to be joined live by some of the authors themselves. Mitch Johnson (author of the Y6 text Kick), Barbara Henderson (author of the Y5 text The Chessmen Thief), and Tom Percival (author of Ruby’s Worries) all led inspiring sessions for our pupils.

It was a fantastic day from start to finish, full of joy, imagination, and a real celebration of reading.
