Small world and construction in EYFS support so many areas of learning. Communication and language is supported as it develops story telling and narrative skills, builds vocabulary and encourages children to talk through experiences. It encourages creativity and imagination, where children cand create their own storylines. Through small world and construction, children can explore families, animals, communities, transport, buildings, environments and more! Children’s fine motor skills can develop, in addition to hand-eye coordination.
This area requires planning, testing and adapting ideas along with persistence and concentration. All of these skills enhance their cognitive development.
Something we absolutely love in EYFS is teamwork. Our small world and construction area is a place where teamwork shines! There are so many more reasons why this area is an important part of our EYFS, it even supports our maths skills through counting, shape and space awareness!
